Welcome to my blog.

Thank you for taking the time to visit my Blog.

I am Melanie, Custom, Lifestyle photographer, specializing in maternity, newborn and child portraiture in and around Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

My goal as your custom photographer is to capture original, personalized photographs that you will be able to cherish forever.

Yadda, yadda, yadda...I know, right?

Anyone can say this.

But I really, truly, mean it. Ask anyone who has worked with me before, ask my husband, or my kids, how much time does mommy spend working/perfecting/loving her job, or anything for that matter. Sometimes I even have to ask myself, do I put too much time into others lives and not enough in my own.

Bottom line, I know all too well, with having to juggle so many things each day, how life sometimes feels like we are on fast forward and we never get a moment to just sit down and take in the beauty that surrounds us each day. This is where I come in.

I want to help you remember these times. I want to capture real life, I want to capture the kind of photos you will look back upon for years to come and smile. I want to capture you, being you. I want you to feel as beautiful as I see you. I invest in you, just as you will invest in me. I invest my heart into each family, it means that much to me.

Why you ask?

Because it is you who keeps me inspired, it is you who allows my passion stay a reality. I have you to thank for my success.

I hope this blog gives you the opportunity to get to know me and see if I am the right photographer to suit your needs! You can reach me via email at mell@mellaniedphotography.com .

Little Doll ~ Montreal Newborn & Family Photographer

Does she not look like a little doll?

Not only beautiful but she was so good to me too. She let me do whatever I wanted.

She must take after her older sister, if you remember she was the natural from the maternity session, who was even helping me and guiding her mom into poses.

She told me at this session that she wanted to be like me when she grew up and she wanted to take pictures too. ::smiling:: Again helping me during our session.

I had so much fun getting to know your family Vanessa, just hearing you and T interacting with your older daughter while I quietly worked away with the baby was so touching. There is so much love.

A real Love,

a bond,

that left me feeling peaceful.

Keep loving one another because family is so important.

Colourful Soul ~ Montreal Family & Maternity Photographer

My job can be difficult at times, I need to walk into the homes of strangers, and get them to open up to me and my camera.

They are trusting me, they are allowing me into their homes. Into their safe haven.

So, I make it a point to reach out to every client, and capture not only their outer beauty but their inner beauty as well. To do this, and do it well, means putting down my guards, my reservations and allowing people see me. The real me. The one that used to be so shy and self conscious. The amazing thing about doing something you love, is that it gives you a confidence that was never there before. But having been that shy girl in school allows me to relate to my clients and how intimidating having a camera in your face can be. So I do everything I can to make them feel comfortable, to feel at ease, to feel good about themselves. I make it personal.

You know that feeling, the one where you feel you have known someone even before you meet. This happens more and more with the online social networks we have, some people are extremely cautious and worried about what they put out there, but overall I think it is an amazing tool we have. Even if we feel alone, people are listening, people are understanding, people are helpful and people do care. With having an audience there are more chances to be heard, for someone to relate and give a helping hand, or even just an ear to listen. There are endless possibilities to make a difference and I know this to be true with Cassie. She doesn’t just sit on the sidelines quietly, she supports, she encourages, she loves. She is a special human being, who in fact I never met until a week ago, but I have known for some time. Both Cassie and Chris have colourful souls, which shines through the beautiful children they created.

So, although Cassie and I have never actually met, I felt instantly connected to her beautiful family.

C- I had so much fun. I hope you  and your family did too!

dori - Amazing! Love the finger painting!October 9, 2011 - 7:46 pm

Playful~ Montreal Family Photographer

When it’s time to blog a session, I take the overall feeling of the family, the kids, the session and this is how I get inspired as to what write. I am by no means a writer, actually my writing and spelling abilities are atrocious {don’t pretend you didn’t notice…lol} but I do write from the heart, and I hope that is what comes across {and cancels out all my grammar errors: insert big smiley face here}.

So I search for quotes, sayings, poems and I work around it and the feeling it gives me. Today, my first thoughts about this family was that they were playful…

and so I came across this description…

“Playfulness means being able to explore and to do things, for the sheer delight of doing them. It means relaxing, being spontaneous, and allowing a situation to carry you where it will. When we have a playful attitude, learning and discovery are fun, and even hard work can fly by.”

“Sometimes we have to remind ourselves that playfulness actually accomplishes things! When children play, they become smarter because new neuron connections are formed in their brains. Play has been described as the work of childhood, the place where the greatest learning occurs. Great scientists and spiritual leaders often are similarly playful.”

“Playfulness reduces stress, and brightens the atmosphere. It engages people to do things that make them more connected with other people. It makes people happy.”

I love it.

Who knew being playful could be so good for us!

While we are here to teach our children,

I think we can learn a lot from them too.

So…

Lets all take a break from our stressful days

from rushing

from worrying

and lets just be playful today.

Enjoy your little preview!

xox

That moment ~ Montreal Newborn Photographer

“I’ve noticed that being with you,

I smile more often,

I anger a little less quickly,

the sun shines a little brighter,

and life is so much sweeter.

For being with you takes me to a different place: a place called love.”

Doesn’t the meaning of love just hold a whole new meaning once you’ve had a baby?

I mean, everyone believes they have loved as much as they can possibly love

but then-

THEN-

something indescribable happens.

That-very-first-moment,

the moment you see your brand new baby,

as they lay her on your chest.

As I have told so many of my clients…cherish that very first moment.

THAT moment, I know for me, is when I became a whole person

and I really understood what unconditional love really meant.

Congratulations to C & A…. your baby girl is perfection.

xoxo

Little Model ~ Montreal Family & Maternity Photographer

I could have photographed this little ray of sunshine all day long….

She is a natural, right? I did not in any way pose her at all, she did it all on her own, and could have continued, she loved it.

She was even following my lead on positioning her mama, she would copy my words and guide her, mimic me and show her…no mommy,

“LIKE THIS”!!

Too. Cute. For. Words.

I can’t wait to meet the baby!

.Believe. ~ Montreal Baby Photographer

“I believe in the sun even if it isn’t shining. I believe in love even when I am alone. I believe in God even when He is silent. ”

We need to find God,

and he cannot be found in noise

and restlessness.

God is the friend of silence.

See how nature

-trees, flowers, grass – grows in silence;

see the stars, the moon and the sun,

how they move in silence…

We need silence to be able to touch souls.

(Mother Teresa)

How can I photograph these brand-new-little-perfect human beings and not believe.

Impossible.

I believe…

I believe that children are given to us to remind us not to take life too seriously,

to remind us to love one another,

to give us hope, and strength.

I believe in Miracles.

I believe in God.

Speechless ~ Montreal Maternity Photographer

What can I say about this session…

I just …

It was….

I am speechless.

I bet  you will be too.

Not only is pregnancy one of the most beautiful miracles a woman goes through.

But just look at how gorgeous my model was.

I.

LOVE.

MY.

JOB.

End of story.

I already have so many ideas floating around in my mind on what I want to do when your little princess arrives.

You guys were so much fun, I look forward to working with you again very soon.

xoxo

Montreal Newborn Photographer

Of course this baby girl was born smiling. If I had to use one word to describe this couple when I met them during our maternity session it would be fun-loving-happy-people. OK, ok …that was 4 words but seriously, they are so easy going and were so fun to work with.

Of course their baby girl gave me smiles too.

I have a hard time believing that a newborn doesn’t “really” smile.

Seriously,

I have captured it too many times to *know* it is real….

a newborn does smile

for real.

REAL smiles.

Just wish I knew what they were smiling at in their sleep.

I like to believe it has to be the angels they are remembering.

Makes it that much more special.

Melisa - Wow, very nice! Love the little smirk on her face :-)August 10, 2011 - 2:04 pm

Giving ~ Montreal Family Photographer/Montreal Newborn Photographer

How beautiful are these girls? Seriously. WOW. Daddy is going to have to chase the boys away when they get older.

You will recognize the gorgeous mama from our maternity session, also the rep for the Westmount Welcome Wagon baskets.

If you haven’t heard about this wonderful service, become a fan on facebook, tell all new moms you know,

it is a wonderful basket given to all new mothers filled with all sorts of goodies.

Plus it is given to you completely FREE.

Yes, FREE.

Not too much in life is free anymore, so as soon as I was approached, I was so happy to become sponsor. I have included a gift and a gift certificate for the basket along with many other amazing vendors!

Seriously, there is nothing more rewarding to me than giving. And it doesn’t have to cost anything.

Give love,

give inspiration,

give a compliment,

give advice.

Just give.

Just be nice.

I promise it will make you feel great. You may not even realize the impact it has on someone.

Recently, a cherished client of mine, reminded me of something I had said to his wife, he told me, she still tells people to this day how I touched her and made her feel better. This was over 2 years ago.

I really had.no.clue. But hearing that I had such an impact made my day. Really. Made. My. Day.

Why not take a moment, right now, and give something, anything, even a hug, to someone who really needs it.

XOXO

Enjoy Catherine, your family is beautiful.
